Breeder vs Pet Store
Breeder vs. Pet Store
It is a known fact that most Pet Stores that sell puppies get their stock from puppy mills! A puppy mill is an establishment that generally keeps their breeding stock ( this means all those cute cuddly dogs ) in small pens and continually breed them at every opportunity. The dogs eat, sleep, pee and poop in the crates. Puppies are born in this mess! A puppy mill dog probably has never seen a vet, never had vaccinations, never been bathed or groomed and has extremely limited association with people. Every time that a person buys a puppy from a Pet Store they are creating more market for the puppy mills and condeming another dog to a life in this environment.

Breeders breed for the love of the breed. It is a breeder's quest to improve their stock to conform to the written standard for their breed. Breeders attend Dog Shows with their dogs for the opportunity to be judged against the breed standard for their breed with the dog who comes closest to the standard taking the day. |

A Pet Store is a business and must look to it's bottom line first and foremost. I heard that a local vet in my area treats the puppies aquired by the local Pet Store when they receive them. I have heard of half of the aquired pups needing to be put down because they were in such poor condition. You are NOT saving a puppy when you buy one from a Pet Store! You are ensuring that the puppy mills will continue to have an outlet for all the puppies that they produce!
